Speech for colonization of space

Earth is not the end

My fellow people, my fellow humans, my fellow earthlicans it is time for change

We humans have always sought to discover the new lands and new areas available for us. Columbus found America, Marco Polo found China and Vasco da Gama the passage to India.

Now the whole world is explored, we have nothing more to find, or at least that’s what many believes.

Ney I say to them since they have not looked up into the sky and seen the potentials of the vast eternity.

I say, we go and claim what’s rightfully ours as handed to us by god who gave us our intellect and power.

We have the technology

We have the resources

We most certainly have the will to improve and discover.

So let’s take that leap that’s even bigger than the one Neil Armstrong took and let’s go to explore space.

We are fighting over land as it is now on earth, “buy land, god isn’t making anymore of it” is one saying. And it might be true, however the true is that we got more land than we can spare. Look at the moon, all empty and waiting to be settled, to be part of the great history of man. We have mars as well that can be our next great planet.

Scientists have also discovered worlds similar to earth and these planets have the same conditions on the matter of atmosphere and oxygen.

If we should encounter sentient life we could learn from them and become and even more prosperous society. And if they aren’t as peaceful as we are and make us choose between fighting and submittance. They can rest assure that every man and women will fight to end to preserve and keep the peace and freedom as we percept it today.

This could be the thing that unites humanity and makes us stronger as a species and living being in the universe. Earth is not the end!

Final reflection!

After studying the others' contributions & reflections, I want you to reflect on the following in the EngC course plan:
"Students should....
be able to review, describe and analyse their needs in English from long-term study and vocational perspectives"

SO, what are your thoughts on this, in connection with your ICT-skills? By ICT-skills I mean both your ability to search for info, critically examine the information available & react to it, the opportunities to make your voice heard, AND making use of the computer as a writing/presentation tool. How much has the school helped preparing you for this?
Spyken preparing you for the future?
Is it Learning? ;)

The Clown

The Clown

He sits alone in his dressing room, five minutes to go.

He paints his face in red and white, four minutes to go.

He's feared, laughed at, alone, three minutes to go.

He's never felt so gray and low, two minutes to go.

He looks in the mirror, he feels like crying, almost time to go.

He puts on his nose and a see through smile, because now it's time for the show.

Charlie at the Olympic Games

                                                    Charlie at the Olympic Games

This is Charlie. Charlie is six years old and lives with his family in Dublin. Charlie loves sport, he plays football, tennis and athletics and he loves the Olympic Games. His dream is to participate in the games and take at least five gold medals. This summer Olympic Games take place in London and he has asked his mother to go, but they have no time she said. Now they are on their way to Charlie’s grandma in Sweden were they are going to spend the summer.

The flight takes three hours. Charlie is really tired, and he closes his eyes. When he opens them he is at the biggest arena he has ever seen. When looking at the short side he can see five rings, one blue, one black, one red, one yellow and one green.  Above the rings there is a flame. The rings are the Olympic rings and the flame is the famous Olympic flame. He is at the Olympic Games in London!

Could it be true? A few minutes ago he sat on a plane to Sweden. He closes his eyes again to see if it is a dream. When he opens his eyes again he can’t believe what he sees. He is no longer sitting at the arena, he is standing at the racing track in the starting blocks. When he looks to the right he sees a tall black man with yellow shirt, it is Usain Bolt. He is standing beside the fastest man in the world! The starting gun sounds and they begin to run. Charlie ends up as number five, of course Usain is number one.

Charlie follows Usain to the athletic village after the race. It is a place where the athletes stay during the Olympic Games. There are a lot of restaurants and shops and it is famous people everywhere he looks. Charlie thinks it is odd that they have build houses just to use during some weeks. But Usain tells him that the apartments will be used as homes for the city residents after the games. Charlie and Usain sit down at one of the restaurants for lunch.

After lunch Charlie walks out in the Olympic park.  It is not an ordinary park, there are a huge flower meadow and cool bridges. On the small river there is a cinema boat and when he looks to the left he sees a big white building with a strange roof. He walks into the building and comes to a big pool. It is the aquatic centre, where al the water sports takes place. At the moment there is no competition so Charlie continues to walk.

When he comes to the front door he meets t a lady. He asks her if there are any events going on at the moment. She looks down in her day schedule and tells him that there is a football match between England and Germany in half an hour. The match is at another arena, called Wembley and he needs to catch a bus to get there.  He asks the lady how they have had the time to build so many arenas. The lady tells him that they use old arenas too and overall they have 27 arenas.

At the arena he realizes that he needs a ticket to get in. So he walks to the guard at the entrance. He asks the guard were he can get hold of a ticket and surprisingly the guard smiles and says. ”Oh it’s you Charlie, I will take you to your seat” Charlie doesn’t understand anything, but follows the guard. He takes him down to the English players bench and he sits down beside no one else than his favourite player, Wayne Rooney.

He should just start to talk to Wayne Rooney when he hears a strange voice and then it becomes dark. When he opens his eyes he is at the plane again. It was the security belt sign that had woke him up.  It was time to land in Sweden. It had all been a dream, but Charlie was more than happy. It was his best dream ever! When he becomes older he will visit the Olympic Games once again, that time not only in his dreams.

Poster to raise awerness

This is supposed to be a poster that is up all over town to encourage people to get together and help raise awareness to the endangered species in Africa.

Conversation

I am just going to give a short introduction about the characters in this conversation. First off we got Hailey, who is a pretty normal girl with an interest for different questions regarding the society. Peter is her friend who likes to tease her, because he knows exactly what to say to make her irritated and to get her going. Cameron on the other hand, he is a douchebag with a huge ego and he is the definition of conceited. It is hard to tell if he is serious or if he just wants to upset people. Fenella is a girl with a big interest for politics and especially feminism and she pretty much hates everyone. The link is just fictional but if it were real it would contain arguments about quotas, which is the subject I wrote about in the academic writing essay.

Hailey McGriffin
Hey everybody!! Check this link out www.quotas.com, and see for yourself why quotas are really bad for society, companies and women!!! This is exactly what I have been saying all along, women will do better without it!

hailey, hailey, hailey… when will u understand? nobody cares…
Gilla ·  · Dela · för 18 minuter sedan ·
Cameron “Ladiesman” Walsh
exactly peter,  women should be nowhere but in the kitchen. It’s only pathetic to say that women can do everything a man can, because u can’t. try to fix up a car or repair a flat tire or do the plumbing. Yeehh that’s what im saying, not that cocky now r u????
Gilla ·  · Dela · för 15 minuter sedan ·
Hailey McGriffin
God, you are so stupid!!! If you don’t care then don’t read it and don’t answer it. Idiots.

Gilla ·  · Dela · för 14 minuter sedan ·
Peter Lock
chill hailey, just kidding with u. u know I love women, right? don’t care if they are 80 or 10, i’ll serve at their command at any time. ;)

Gilla ·  · Dela · för 14 minuter sedan ·
Cameron “Ladiesman” Walsh
lol peter, u’re so incredible lame. and hails, don’t u have dishes to do?

Gilla ·  · Dela · för 10 minuter sedan ·
Fenella Stead
So true Hailey!! I read the link and it’s awesome. This entire society is dominated by disgusting men (or you could call them pigs) and it’s time we do something about it!!! Keep it going girl! Girlpower xoxo

Cameron: you would be nothing without women you lowlife idiot. i hope you’ll end up alone and miserable.

Gilla ·  · Dela · för 8 minuter sedan ·
Cameron “Ladiesman” Walsh
you can’t be serious fenella. Be serious and just realize that there are some things men are better at. Don’t be ridiculous or make a fool out of urself. Just amit it

Gilla ·  · Dela · för 5 minuter sedan ·
Hailey McGriffin
But Cameron that is not what we are saying, read the link and then you’ll know what we’re talking about. I am not saying that women are better or not admitting to the fact that men are better at some things, just like women are better at other things. What we are talking about is that it’s not gaining women to force companies to have women on their boards and stuff like that. So I think you should listen to your own advice, and not make a fool out of yourself.

Gilla ·  · Dela · för 3 minuter sedan ·
Cameron “Ladiesman” Walsh
yeye, whatevery hailey. We all know men are better at everything that counts. I couldn’t care less about u being better than me at handling a dishwasher and whatever.

Gilla ·  · Dela · för 2 minuter sedan ·

Hailey McGriffin
well good luck with your life then, Cameron. you will always be depending on women and you will appear ridiculous if you can’t even do your own dishes

Gilla ·  · Dela · för 2 minuter sedan ·

A Children's Story from Henrik

The Tale of Little Muammar. A Cautionary Tale for Undemocratic Children.

Once upon a time there was a little boy called Muammar. He lived with his family, the Khadaffis, in a country far far away, where the sun always shone and where he could swim in the mighty ocean. Although his brothers and sister were kind to him and he had many friends, little Muammar was never content. The reason for this was that his country was ruled by an evil king. Muammar said to himself – “If I were the leader of this country, it would be a better place. Oh, if only I were the king!”. “But, how do I become king?” he wondered. “Maybe I can go to the mighty palace and ask the king if he would like to give the crown to me?”

After three days and three nights on his best camel, little Muammar finally reached the mighty castle. When he told the guards that he wanted to talk to the king, he was shown to the king’s golden office in the highest tower. “What could a little boy like you want to discuss with me?” asked the king, who was at least 100 years old and had a long white beard. Little Muammar, who no longer was nervous, boldly stated his mission: “I would like to become king!”. The King laughed a very evil laugh, for he was an evil king, and thought “This is exactly the kind of idiot I can fool to work for me”, so he said: “If you work for me for seven years, I will let you become the king”. Of course, this was a lie, because the work was very hard and never before had anyone survived such hard work for so many years.

Little Muammar worked and worked, day in and day out. When the seven years finally had passed he had become a captain in the king’s guard and he once again came to the king with his request. The king, surprised to find that little Muammar had now become a strong man and that he was still alive, replied that he had actually meant that after seven years he would become nominated for king. Hence, he now had a very good chance of becoming the king, if only he worked for another seven years. Muammar became very sad when he heard this, and went to the palace garden to reflect on his stupidity and mourn the seven lost years. He now understood that the king would never give the crown to him. When Muammar told his soldier friends what the king had said, they cried “What a tyrant! He must go!” The King, who overheard their conversation, became terrified when he realised that his loyal guards had turned against him, and quickly decided that it was time for him to take a vacation. He said to the guards “You are right. I will take my leave and Muammar shall be my successor”, and he quickly left the castle with his 30 wives, never to be seen again. The guards rejoiced, and went to the garden to tell Muammar the good news.

Muammar was overjoyed and after seven weeks of festivities for his people, he started to attended to his new royal duties. Soon, he had solved all the country’s problems and everyone was happy, except for Muammar. No matter how good the country had become, he couldn’t help feeling that he was not a real king. His staff never left him alone. They always came with suggestions, provided advice not asked for and, even, put forth demands. “A king should not have to listen to the silly talk of simple people” he thought. “I want my own ideas to come true”. He had grand plans: he should change the name of the country, make a new flag, spread his thoughts about life. In short, he wanted to create a state never seen or heard of before. “That’s what a real king does” he thought. He started to spread spite among his staff, so that they would have no time to bother him. Soon, all they did was to quarrel over false rumours that he had spread. Now, he could finally fulfil his ambitions. But without a staff, there was no one to carry out his orders. His plans could not be executed.

Soon enough, people were starting to get tired of their new king. “He only cares for himself”, they said. Even Muammar’s oldest friends started to doubt him. When Muammar heard about the complaints he got very angry. “Don’t they understand that I have sacrificed my best seven years for them, that I always have their best in mind?”. To punish the ungrateful, he built ever larger dungeons in his castle, into which disobedient citizens were thrown. None of them saw the sun again. The people of his country started to call him king Gloom, and dissatisfaction spread like a sandstorm in the desert. Not before long, a rebellion started, and soon the entire country was on the march against him. Still, Muammar was safe in his castle, and the rebels couldn’t reach him. Not knowing how to defeat him, they were beginning to despair. Then they were suddenly offered to borrow a dragon from a neighboring country. “The dragon can do what we can’t”, they said. “It can torch the ports and fly over the walls”.

When Muammar looked out from his golden tower at dawn next day, he saw the terrible dragon in front of his people. Before Muammar had the time to say “What kind of strange animal is that?” the dragon had thrown enormous balls of fire on his castle, which immediately went up in flames. The people thanked the dragon, and with a little gift of three hundred oil wells, it was sent back home again. The people now rejoiced, and there was dancing and singing in every street. King Muammar was gone and forgotten. But, oddly enough, he seemed to have left a mark on his people because in many cities you could hear young men whisper “Oh, if only I were the king!”

A Children's Story from Felicia

Where does the litter go?

Once upon a time in land far, far away a little boy named Damon was throwing away his leftovers from lunch break. Just as he had tipped his lunch pack over the bin he heard someone yell behind him. He quickly turned around to see his friend Louis standing there with his yell still on his lips.

-          What’s going on? Damon asked surprised, and frankly a little scared.

-          What’s going on! ? What do you mean; “what’s going on”? You just threw food waste in the ordinary bin, Damon!

-          Ordinary bin? Is there a special, magical bin?

-          No, stupid. You need to throw the food waste in the food waste bin.

Now, if there’s one thing we need to know about Damon is that he had never thought of himself as stupid and he really wasn’t either, but right now he was very confused. He hadn’t been this confused since he realized that his dad would always go away to buy something when Santa would arrive and that dad would always come back after Santa had left. How come dad always missed Santa? And why was he never sad about it? But that was another story and Damon shock his head and returned to reality.

-          Louis, could you please explain what you are talking about? He said calmly to his worked up friend.

-          Weren’t you listening when I had that big speech in school about how food waste ruins our planet?

Frankly, no, Damon hadn’t been listening because on that day because in the day the Louis had had his presentation it so happened to be a Thursday and for as long as Damon had remembered Thursdays where meatball day. And Damon loved meatballs. So to be honest, he hadn’t heard a word all day.

Once again Damon had to shake his head to return to reality.

-          Sure, I was just wondering if you where paying attention.

-          Yes, yes I was.

There was slight awkward pause where nobody really knew what was going on, when Louis finally continued.

-          I’ll tell you again. What’s up with you? You’re acting like it is Thursday.

-          I wish… Now tell me.

-          Well, you see; food waste is a very big problem nowadays and a lot is thrown away mainly from restaurants. Over £300 can be saved year if you only recycle your food waste.

-          That’s a lot of meatballs Damon said dreamy.

-          Huh?

-          Never mind… Keep talking

-          Right, well. You can save a lot of money! And all you have to do is to put all of your food waste in a separate, paper bag instead of your ordinary plastic on and you’re there! When you later have put all your food waste into the bin and the garbage men have picked it up it goes to a specially built dumps where the miracle of recycle can begin!

Damon looked at his watch, 10 minutes until the next lesson would begin, he slowly started to walk to the classroom whilst counting hours until Thursday.

-          First the waste gets pressed and milled into a very nutritious fluid which later goes into a biogas plant where special bacteria breaks down the food waste and create a clean biogas. The gas can then be upgraded into gas for cars and the goo can be used for fertilizers on farms and also as food for pigs! Instead of putting all you food waste into you ordinary bin that later goes to garbage dump that will attract odour and other yucky stuff. Isn’t that great Damon?!

-          It sure is Louis! And believe me; I will think before putting food waste into the ordinary bin in the future. I wouldn’t want you to have this speech again.

THE END

Taizé – the poem

I slowly walk down the small road
Towards a place where my mind can rest
Many people feel like me, it’s clearly showed
A small village with hundreds of guests

I have never in my life felt this before
A total sense of happiness and peace
I wish I could feel like this forever more
And all my troubles and pressure release

I sing and my heart fills with gladness
Hundreds of people are singing with me
I think to myself that I am so blessed
To have all these people here with me

Together, discussing the wonders of life
Seeking the answers that can not be found
We are all different; we are all one of a kind
But we accept each other and keep our feet on the ground

If the whole world could be like this
There would be no such things as war and hate
This small town of Taizé I will surely miss
I truly doubt there is any place as great

This facebook-conversation is based on my speech about “Pollenkungen”, you remember the guy named Gösta in Ängelholm who saw a spaceship and aliens. He also found objects afterwards that he took home and used as proof for his experience. Later, he started having dreams where the aliens came to him and told him about the secret of pollen. He used this secret to, together with his brother Eric Carlsson and their friend Åke Asplund, start a very successful company, called Cernelle, which makes naturopathic drugs. Claes Svahn is a journalist, and also head of a UFO-organization in Sweden. He has written a book about Gösta, but came to the conclusion that it wasn’t real aliens. Curt Bergquist was a guy that worked with Gösta for a long time. He seemed to believe the story.

18th of May 23:52
Gösta Carlsson: just saw a spaceship here in ängelholm.. must have been the strangest thing I’ve ever experienced? gonna go back there tomorrow to check it out.

Mercy Killing

Please, please, Death take me away
Put the needle in me and pass me away
I am a sacred cow, I don’t have a Choice
Please, please, listen to my voice and rejoice
I gave my informed consent a week ago
I don’t want to become another dumb show
Please, please do not judge me for this act
I am doing it out of love, it is a fact
My dear love, You left me all alone
Please, please, I just cannot postpone
My companion in this life is the wet bed I am lying in
I cannot move, I cannot eat, and it is chagrin
Please, please, I want the needle in me right away
Suffering day and night, all I can do is to pray

My prayer is heard; tomorrow I fly to the sky
Thank you Dignitas

The Chilean Miners

I have made a movie/trailer thing. I had a great vision but i am not really pleased with the outcome of the thing. The music did not work so if you have earphones use them or else just turn off the sound! The mic to my computer was not good enough so i think that is why.
Enjoy!
-I actually created a new jing from your film, so now I am linking to my library at jing. Fingers crossed!=) Sound might be too loud this time. /Åsa

Marijuana

The first time we met, I couldn't believe
The extent of the impact you would have on me
You made me see what was in my mind
Left me wanting more of you and your kind

In or out?
I don't know
My feelings are gone
I'm just hanging on

Why good God, did you let me see?
How good this shit really can be
My wants became needs
Now I have to proceed

Everybody tells me to quit right now
I look away 'cause I don't know how
You're the only thing left worth living for
You left my mind empty, you left my soul sore

Getting so little, wanting much more
Please anybody? Give an end to this war
