Speech for colonization of space

Earth is not the end

My fellow people, my fellow humans, my fellow earthlicans it is time for change

We humans have always sought to discover the new lands and new areas available for us. Columbus found America, Marco Polo found China and Vasco da Gama the passage to India.

Now the whole world is explored, we have nothing more to find, or at least that’s what many believes.

Ney I say to them since they have not looked up into the sky and seen the potentials of the vast eternity.

I say, we go and claim what’s rightfully ours as handed to us by god who gave us our intellect and power.

We have the technology

We have the resources

We most certainly have the will to improve and discover.

So let’s take that leap that’s even bigger than the one Neil Armstrong took and let’s go to explore space.

We are fighting over land as it is now on earth, “buy land, god isn’t making anymore of it” is one saying. And it might be true, however the true is that we got more land than we can spare. Look at the moon, all empty and waiting to be settled, to be part of the great history of man. We have mars as well that can be our next great planet.

Scientists have also discovered worlds similar to earth and these planets have the same conditions on the matter of atmosphere and oxygen.

If we should encounter sentient life we could learn from them and become and even more prosperous society. And if they aren’t as peaceful as we are and make us choose between fighting and submittance. They can rest assure that every man and women will fight to end to preserve and keep the peace and freedom as we percept it today.

This could be the thing that unites humanity and makes us stronger as a species and living being in the universe. Earth is not the end!

Final reflection!

After studying the others' contributions & reflections, I want you to reflect on the following in the EngC course plan:
"Students should....
be able to review, describe and analyse their needs in English from long-term study and vocational perspectives"

SO, what are your thoughts on this, in connection with your ICT-skills? By ICT-skills I mean both your ability to search for info, critically examine the information available & react to it, the opportunities to make your voice heard, AND making use of the computer as a writing/presentation tool. How much has the school helped preparing you for this?
Spyken preparing you for the future?
Is it Learning? ;)

The Clown

The Clown

He sits alone in his dressing room, five minutes to go.

He paints his face in red and white, four minutes to go.

He's feared, laughed at, alone, three minutes to go.

He's never felt so gray and low, two minutes to go.

He looks in the mirror, he feels like crying, almost time to go.

He puts on his nose and a see through smile, because now it's time for the show.

Charlie at the Olympic Games

                                                    Charlie at the Olympic Games

This is Charlie. Charlie is six years old and lives with his family in Dublin. Charlie loves sport, he plays football, tennis and athletics and he loves the Olympic Games. His dream is to participate in the games and take at least five gold medals. This summer Olympic Games take place in London and he has asked his mother to go, but they have no time she said. Now they are on their way to Charlie’s grandma in Sweden were they are going to spend the summer.

The flight takes three hours. Charlie is really tired, and he closes his eyes. When he opens them he is at the biggest arena he has ever seen. When looking at the short side he can see five rings, one blue, one black, one red, one yellow and one green.  Above the rings there is a flame. The rings are the Olympic rings and the flame is the famous Olympic flame. He is at the Olympic Games in London!

Could it be true? A few minutes ago he sat on a plane to Sweden. He closes his eyes again to see if it is a dream. When he opens his eyes again he can’t believe what he sees. He is no longer sitting at the arena, he is standing at the racing track in the starting blocks. When he looks to the right he sees a tall black man with yellow shirt, it is Usain Bolt. He is standing beside the fastest man in the world! The starting gun sounds and they begin to run. Charlie ends up as number five, of course Usain is number one.

Charlie follows Usain to the athletic village after the race. It is a place where the athletes stay during the Olympic Games. There are a lot of restaurants and shops and it is famous people everywhere he looks. Charlie thinks it is odd that they have build houses just to use during some weeks. But Usain tells him that the apartments will be used as homes for the city residents after the games. Charlie and Usain sit down at one of the restaurants for lunch.

After lunch Charlie walks out in the Olympic park.  It is not an ordinary park, there are a huge flower meadow and cool bridges. On the small river there is a cinema boat and when he looks to the left he sees a big white building with a strange roof. He walks into the building and comes to a big pool. It is the aquatic centre, where al the water sports takes place. At the moment there is no competition so Charlie continues to walk.

When he comes to the front door he meets t a lady. He asks her if there are any events going on at the moment. She looks down in her day schedule and tells him that there is a football match between England and Germany in half an hour. The match is at another arena, called Wembley and he needs to catch a bus to get there.  He asks the lady how they have had the time to build so many arenas. The lady tells him that they use old arenas too and overall they have 27 arenas.

At the arena he realizes that he needs a ticket to get in. So he walks to the guard at the entrance. He asks the guard were he can get hold of a ticket and surprisingly the guard smiles and says. ”Oh it’s you Charlie, I will take you to your seat” Charlie doesn’t understand anything, but follows the guard. He takes him down to the English players bench and he sits down beside no one else than his favourite player, Wayne Rooney.

He should just start to talk to Wayne Rooney when he hears a strange voice and then it becomes dark. When he opens his eyes he is at the plane again. It was the security belt sign that had woke him up.  It was time to land in Sweden. It had all been a dream, but Charlie was more than happy. It was his best dream ever! When he becomes older he will visit the Olympic Games once again, that time not only in his dreams.
